Alright so basically you watch some animated movies- I chose only 2D animated movies because I like the classic look, but It really doesn’t matter… I guess it doesn’t even have to be animated. THEN: You pull out a pencil, you get some paper, you pause the movie here and there to catch some good faces and expressions, and then you draw! The overall goal of this exercise isn’t to make thing perfect its mostly to give you a wide range of versatility and familiarity with different expressions and cartoon facial structures. I bet most of you could guess a lot of the movies I watched! :) Good luck friend and keep drawing!
So there's art styles that use things I want to strive for in my own. I've found all the artists in it are guys ( + you ). The sexs' brains function different, & I'm concerned that because I was born a girl I'll never be able to achieve what I want to with my art. I've always felt like a guy, and lately this has brung tears/frustration. I know that your art will only be as good as you work to make it, but there's only one girl in that list. Do you think that someones gender affects their art?
Hello! I think gender does not effect your style at all. Your style is what you want it to be and how hard you are willing to work regardless of what gender you are. You don’t don’t have to worry or limit yourself, just keep practicing.
This is tragic. Damn. Feel compelled to make a list of awesome ladies (sorry if I assume your gender incorrectly. Tried to research the prefs of everyone included):
There’s a bagillion more. But yeah. Damn. Making me think twice about leaving gender options unmarked.
Everyone look at this list!! LADIES! Ill dig through my follow list and add on! If anyone else has any fave lady artists please feel free to reblog and add them!
If men stopped working…the world would continue on.
If women stopped working, then things would get ugly.
What?
there has been an instance where this happened. it was 1975 and icelandic women decided not to work for one day.
working as in cooking, cleaning, taking care of the children, doing chores and so on, not only “not showing up to your workplace”. women did nothing that day, except showing up in reykjavik and protesting for gender equality, equal pay and equal representation in parliament, you know, cool stuff.
you know what happened? havoc. men were left with food to cook and children they never took care of to pick up from kindergarden and entertain for the day. they went en masse to the food shops buying sausages because they could cook nothing else, they had to bond with children they never spent more than a couple hours a day with. they struggled combining their work day and the domestic tasks they had to sort out. and this just for one day.
iceland in 1975 stopped working and things indeed got ugly. so ugly that women in the following decades became woke AF and soon it happened that women became president, took half of the seats in parliament and achieved one of the best living environments in the world.
if an archaeologist says an artifact was probably for “ritual purposes” it means “i have no fuckin clue”
but if they say it was for “fertility rituals” they mean “i know exactly what it was for but i dont want to say ‘ancient dildo’”
Back in the day I worked at a certain very famous and very high caste art museum in the US as a junior curator. Part of my job was to catalog the objects in the museum database. This includes details like provenance, measurements, and a visual description of what the object looked like.
Like I said, the museum was a pretty snotty institution. It’s got a LOT of objects it’s way famous for possessing, but nobody knew about the absolutely massive collection of Moche erotic pottery it had because the curators were totally embarrassed by this stuff.
Some examples:
Pretty hot shit, right? They never, ever put any of this stuff on public view or published it in any catalogues but - we legit had like several hundred pieces of Moche ceramics in the “dirty pots” category. Anyway, I was left alone to just do my job with regard to the database for several years, ok? And I figured, well, these’re accessioned objects in the museum’s collection - better get down to bidness.
I catalogued every goddamn bestiality, necrophiliac, cocksucking, buttfucking, detached penis, and giant vulva drinking cup in that collection. I’d be like,
A drinking vessel in form of a standing man wearing a tunic and cap. He holds an oversized erection in his hands and stares into the distance (note I did not say “like he’s hella-constipated”). The vessel has a hole at both the tip of the penis as well as around the rim of the figure’s head, thus forcing the drinker to drink only from the penis or risk spilling wine all over themselves from the top of the vessel. Red and orange slip covers the surface of the piece.
Pretty straightforward, right? Apparently the deep seated fear of these objects that the curators exhibited was meant to spread to me as well, but - no one ever gave me that memo, because I guess Midwesterners reproduce asexually. When the curators understood that I had catalogued all of these objects in addition to the other, non-sexy pieces in the collection, they were apparently livid, but knew they had no legs to stand on in terms of getting pissed at me for it.
I visited the museum’s online public access database a few years back and - every single description I wrote of these pieces has been totally neutered to say something like Male figural vase.
Long story short? Just call a dildo a fucking dildo. It’s all gonna be ok, I swear.
